Oman – Salalah. Day 3

This day we decided to dedicate entirely to trophy GT fishing — tuna and all the other species simply didn’t interest us anymore.
We chose locations with depth changes from 30 down to 70 meters, followed by a drop into 1000+ meter depths.
The strategy was simple: hold the boat in 60–70 meters and cast toward the shallow areas.
All the lures were oversized — 230–300 mm — specifically to completely eliminate bites from smaller fish under 30 kg.
At each spot we made around 5 casts, then shifted 50–100 meters and changed lures, because there was still no clear understanding of what the fish would prefer that day.
At one of the locations Denis got smashed on a 230 mm white popper with a red head.
“That’s the record fish,” I immediately said!
After a brutal 15-minute fight, the trophy GT was finally landed in the boat.
The fish measured 153 cm and weighed 65 kg.
We did it.
After three exhausting days of casting from sunrise to sunset — we earned this fish!
Now the next goal is a 70+ kg GT, and there’s no other way forward.
As we all know, Southern Oman is home to the biggest GT in the world. From March through May, the world’s top anglers come to this region to chase a true record fish.
